Never Stop Surfing Tour Board Drive

At every stop of the tour, surf supplies will be collected, stored, and sent directly to Cuban surfers. You can help an entire generation of Cubans get in the water by contributing new and used supplies to the drive.

BOARD DRIVE FAQs

Q. WHY IS THIS NECESSARY?

A. Surfing in Cuba is at an incredibly young stage. There is not a single surf shop on the island. Every “modern” surfboard was brought in and left behind by tourists moved by the surfers there. In a country cut off from much of the world and where surfing was illegal, surfing has been a strictly underground activity. Today, the government is beginning to recognize surfing as a legitimate activity and there is an incredible opportunity to grow the sport on the island. Access to surf supplies will greatly enhance the ability for the sport to develop and help the next generation of surfers get in the waves.

Q. what supplies are needed?

A.  We are collecting the following list of items. Please note that we only are able to collect supplies in good to excellent condition to ensure that contributions last a long time on the island. These are items that you may have outgrown or no longer use but still have lots of life in them. Please wash all clothing and wetsuits before donating - all sizes accepted. Thank you!!

  • Foamies (all sizes in most conditions. just no rips / breaks)

  • Surfboards (all sizes in good to excellent condition)

  • Board bags (all functional conditions)

  • Leashes

  • Fins (FCS, FCS2, Futures, Foamie)

  • Wax

  • Rashguards

  • Board shorts + swimsuits

  • Spring suits & thermal lycras

  • Surf repair supplies (kits or raw ingredients)

  • Surfboard blanks

Q. how will the supplies get to cuba?

A. Supply channels to Cuba are complicated but we have received assurances from Yaya on the ground that her recent efforts to work with the government to grow surfing on the island will allow contributions to go directly to her and other established surfers on the island to be distributed throughout the home-grown surf community. That said, there are uncertainties in the effort and we are working with both Cubans on the island and Miami-based logistics coordinators to make sure the supplies reach the people we are aiming to support. We are planning on using the film tour as a way to collect a storage bank of supplies and over the coming months (perhaps even a year or two) will send gradually larger shipments to Cuba via Miami.

Q. Can I contribute money?

A. Yes! Donations are very welcome and necessary to support surfing in Cuba. Donations will cover the cost of getting surf supplies to Cuba and help the fledgling community there thrive. Directly from them:

“We have several ideas that, due to lack of money, make it difficult for us to develop them. Make our first surf festival. Create a place in Havana just for surfing as a headquarters. Celebrate a party on international surfing day. Trips to Santiago de Cuba and being able to take others who, due to lack of funds, have never been able to go.” - Yaya

Q. who is supporting this?

A.  The board drive is currently hosted at events in collaboration with local Surfrider Foundation chapters. We have advisory support from The Gudauskas Brothers | Positive Vibe Warriors. Reach out for sponsorship opportunities!!!
